The first trailer for director Takashi Shimizu’s live-action adaptation of the Japanese children’s novel Kiki’s Delivery Service is here and I have to say that I am a bit underwhelmed. Granted, Hayao Miyazaki’s animated is an outright classic, so Shimizu has a tough bar to clear and while this is just our first glimpse I am not sure that he is clearing it. We’ll find out for sure though when the film opens in Japan on March 1 2014. No word yet as to a US distribution deal.
