X-MEN:APOCALYPSE Rumor Wrap Up

BryanSingerWhen Bryan Singer announced that X-Men: Apocalypse was to follow X-Men: Days of Future Past, it set the Internet in a frenzy. And an Internet in a frenzy seems to spontaneously stir up some rumors.

So, naturally, people are hankering to know who will play the supervillain Apocalypse in the film. FirstShowing.net has a source that says that the actor playing Apocalypse has already been cast, and he’s been cast for years:

…the credits bumper jumps back to the past with a young Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) in a ramshackle house in the desert eating dinner, clearly on the run from all the authorities who want to bring him down. While using a well outside to get some water, the young Magneto sees something fall from the night sky and crash to Earth nearby. Upon inspecting the impact zone, he encounters what is described as an “alien form” who is “towering, terrifying, with a twisted metal face and dark pits for eyes.” It’s Apocalypse and he says, “I have crossed rivers of time to find you.” Magneto asks, “Who are you?”

The alien responds, “I am your future.” Suddenly Apocalypse merges with Magneto, who screams and blasts an insane amount of energy and shockwaves around him. This energy explosion levels everything around him, with a blast radius that goes for miles. As Magneto looks at what he’s done, he has a realization of the power he now holds and a villainous grin begins to form before the film cuts to black.

Okay, while I’d say that Fassbender is arguably the best actor for the role in the new cast, and that this would solve the problem on how to present Apocalypse on the screen, it seems to be a bit of a cop out, and one that will not go over well with the fans. Apocalypse is a popular villain from the comic books and I believe fans would want to see a physical version of him on the screen, not just Magneto possessed by him. Not to mention that we have had three X-films with a no possessed Magneto in them. How will that be explained away?

Another question some people had was if Bryan Singer would be returning to direct X-Men: Apocalypse. For me, I thought that was fairly obvious because Singer was the first person to tweet the news, but New York Magazine’s Vulture website confirms that, yes, Singer will be coming back to direct that film.

So, who will be in the cast? Well, here’s where the rumors get conflicting. The above Vulture story says the cast will consist of only the X-Men:First Class actors. However, Bleeding Cool states that the next film will feature as much of the DoFP cast as they can sign, both old and new. As to who I believe? Well, Bleeding Cool was the first to break the Apocalypse story way back in March, so I’m leaning towards them
