Warner Brothers has announced the release date for their Veronica Mars feature film. The movie famously funded via Kickstarter will hit theaters exactly one year and one day after series creator Rob Thomas first opened up the crowd funding campaign to finance the film – March 14, 2013.
The announcement came via Entertainment Weekly, which not-so-uncoincidentally is owned by the greater Warner Brothers conglomerate.
As Thomas told EW –
Warner Brothers had this date circled for quite some time and hoped it would stay open. Luckily, no other teen detective movie decided to open in the middle of March.
Thomas goes on to explain that the release plan for the film has changed somewhat. Originally, the plan was for a limited release before making the film available through On Demand services and for downloadable purchase. The studio is now looking at giving the film a much bigger theatrical release, though it has yet to be determined how many screens the film will get.
The film features former-teen-detective-now-New York City lawyer Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell) reluctantly returning to her hometown of Neptune CA for her high school reunion only to find she has to prove that a former boyfriend did not murder his current pop star girlfriend.
