Trailer For Jackie Chan’s POLICE STORY 2013 Suggests Darker, More Dramatic Turn

PoliceStory2013

Jackie Chan may have walked away somewhat from his announcement that CZ12 (aka Chinese Zodiac) was going to be his last action film, but the trailer for his upcoming Police Story 2013 suggests a shift away from action towards more dramatic fare. The film is directed by Sheng Ding who previously teamed with Chan on Little Big Soldier.

Chan’s Police Story franchise is usually known for its lighthearted tone mixing broad comedy with action. Here, things have definitely taken a turn for the darker, much more so than the last installment, 2004’s New Police Story, ever did. (I’m assuming that there is no real story connection to the past films and Chan is just trading on the franchise name here.) If anything, the trailer below hints at a story that feels more in tone with his 2009 film, The Shinjuku Incident. Check out the trailer and see if you agree.

No word yet on whether there is a US distributor for this or not.
