Ever since the subtitle for the second Avengers film Age Of Ultron, has been announced, fans have been speculating how the evil computerized artificial intelligence ULtron will be created. In the comics, he is the invention-gone-wrong of scientist Hank Pym, though that character is also the superhero known as Ant-Man and he is being held in reserve by Marvel Studios for his own film that will be released after Avengers 2. so to get around that, a number of fan theories have been circulating, most of which centering on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s resident genius, Tony Stark, being somehow involved with Ultron’s creation.
But Collider (story since removed) received some information from one of their sources that suggests just the opposite. While they caution that they are unable to verify the synopsis that they received, this is what they were told will be the basis for the sequel’s storyline –
As the US Government create a force, known as Ultron, The Avengers are told they are not needed any longer. But when Ultron turns against humanity, it’s time for The Avengers to assemble yet again for their most dangerous challenge ever.
Given what we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, this does fit in with certain things. We know that the US government wants to their own superhero force outside of the control of an organization like SHIELD as we’ve seen in Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw further expansion of this idea in next year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Fueled by that attitude, I can easily see how the government would move on from just soldiers in an Iron Man-based weapon suits to completely automated, robotic units. And then the whole thing going completely wrong.
As filming for the anticipated films is set to start next year I suspect that we will start hearing more reports that will either confirm or deny what we’re hearing today.
