Alan Taylor, who jumped from directing episodes of HBO’s A Game Of Thrones to heading up Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, is in negotiations to direct the new Terminator franchise reboot.
Taylor will be behind the camera for Paramount Pictures, Annapurna Pictures and Skydance’s planned relaunch of the killer cyborg from the future series that helped to launch the careers of both star Arnold Schwarzenegger and writer/director James Cameron. Reportedly Taylor beat out the likes of Rian Johnson and Prisoners director Dennis Villeneuve.
There is no word yet as to what the film’s plot might be, but Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier have written the script to this new installment which is hoped to be the first in a new trilogy that will “stand alone” from the preceding four Terminator films. Does that mean that this will launch a new continuity, separate from what has come before or will it all still work together in some way?
We’ll find out when the film hits theaters on June 26, 2015.
