Bill Murray will be starring in the comedy Rock The Kasbah for director Barry Levinson.
Mitch Glazer’s script casts Murray as a down and out musician manager who accompanies his last remaining client on a USO tour of Afghanistan. After being abandoned without money or a passport he discovers an extraordinary young singer who accompanies him back to Kabul in order to participate in the Afghanistan version of American Idol.
There’s no word as to when production on the film may start, but it can’t be too soon. The world needs more Bill Murray movies and if we can’t get Ghostbusters 3 any time too soon, I would be happy with seeing him working from a script authored by a co-writer of his classic Scrooged. And since it sounds as if this would be a comedy with an emotional core, it sounds as if this is right up Levinson’s alley.
