1. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (Sony/ Screen Gems, 3,000 Theaters, 130 Minutes, Rated PG-13): Here comes the latest in the line of teen-friendly supernatural novels adapted by Hollywood in the hopes that it will be another cash cow like Twilight was. The success rate isn’t very good. See Beautiful Creatures, another supernatural teen-friendly book series that died a painful death at the box office earlier this year, taking any hopes of a franchise with it.
This time around it might be different. I over heard people at the Wizard World Experience New York and the Book Expo America saying how they couldn’t wait for this film to come out. So, the fans are excited about it. Whether the novices come out to see it is another story entirely.
The film involves a young woman (Lily Collins) who, unbeknownst to her, is descended from a long line of half-angel demon hunters. When her mother is kidnapped by the forces of evil, she must team up with others of her kind and find her, killing demons as she goes.
