Len Wiseman Off Of Universal’s MUMMY Reboot

Underworld director Len Wiseman has left Universal’s planned reboot of their Mummy horror franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter is stating that a scheduling conflict is the reason for Wiseman’s departure. He recently directed the pilot episode for the new FOX TV series Sleepy Hollow and is also slated to helm the first few episodes. This suggests that the studio is looking at getting the project in front of cameras this fall.

Wiseman signed onto the project last fall, the studio hoping that his experience in blending horror and action for the Underworld films would be an asset to the film, in which Jon Spaihts’s script transported the classic tale of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh who returns to life to find his reincarnated love.

The studio and producers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Sean Daniels and Jim Jacks are presumably starting to look for a new director. Once one is found, I would not be surprised if the film were to get in front of cameras relatively quickly afterwards.
