The crowd-funded Veronica Mars film has added another cast member, and this time it is not someone who appeared on the original television series. Zap2It is reporting that James Franco will be appearing in the film in the small role of – himself.
The details about Franco’s participation are a bit spoilerish, so if you don’t want to know what series creator Rob Thomas has in store for Kristen Bell’s titular feisty, former teen sleuth read no further.
Franco as Franco will be one of a number of celebrity victims of a scam where someone is placing spy cameras in their homes and selling the footage, presumably to various celebrity gossip websites. Coincidentally, a hidden camera factored into the resolution of the show’s season one big mystery. I’m not sure if this will be the main mystery that Veronica Mars will attempt to unravel while returning to her hometown of Neptune for high school 10-year reunion or if it will be just a side story.
Thomas and cast currently have a few weeks left of shooting on the film. They have a spot on the San Diego Comic-Con schedule, so perhaps we will learn more about the film then.
