Jason Schwartzman is in talks to join Tim Burton’s upcoming dramedy Big Eyes. The film focuses on Margaret Keane, the painter of the 1950s and 60s iconic paintings of sad, big-eyed children and her husband Walter who usurped public credit for the art from his wife. Schwartzman will play Ruben, a San Francisco art gallery owner who is not a fan of Margaret Keane’s saucer-eyed waifs.
Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams are already signed to play Walter and Margaret. Krysten Ritter and Danny Huston are also lined up to appear in the film.
The script is by noted biopic scripting team of Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander (Ed Wood, Man on The Moon, The People vs. Larry Flynt) who at one point were set to direct the project themselves with Kate Hudson as Margaret and Thomas Hayden Church as Walter. I’m not sure how one goes from Church to Waltz for a role, but there you go.
