Is This The First Casting Breakdowns For STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

Jacen-Jaina-Solo

Now that we know when Star Wars: Episode VII will be filming, everyone’s attention is turning to what they will be filming. And in the case of not having anything concrete to report there’s always a good rumor. And today we have a good rumor courtesy of Schmoes Know, it’s a bit of a doozy.

According to the site, a “reliable source” has seen a copy of the casting breakdowns that are being prepared to be sent out. T

Storyline: Two 17 year old twins, a girl and a boy, are trained by their uncle Luke to be the greatest Jedi’s in the galaxy. Problems arise when the male twin turns to the dark side.

Jaina Solo – Female, 17 years old, lead. – Jacen’s twin sister, one of the greatest Jedi’s in the galaxy, trained by her uncle Luke Skywalker

Jacen Solo – Male, 17 years old, lead – Jaina’s twin brother, one of the greatest Jedi’s in the world. A loner who is constantly struggling with the idea of what’s right and what’s wrong. Starts to turn to the dark side. Full of conviction that what he is doing is the “right thing”. Will eventually become Darth Caedus.

Note the site is the first ones to state that this could very well be bullshit. And I am have inclined to agree. Now we know that this new trilogy would be dealing with the next generation of the Skywalker/Solo clan, but let’s weigh the pros and cons on this.

Director J. J. Abrams’ stated this past weekend that the new films will “honor but not revere” the wide range of “Expanded Universe” of novels and comics that have charted out the story of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia and the rest over the years after Return Of The Jedi. Now it was debunked pretty early on that the films would not be direct adaptations of any of the books. Still, that doesn’t preclude using elements from the books. Is that what is happening here?

Those who have read many of the Star Wars Expanded Universe novels will recognize the names as the children of Han and Leia, whose own published adventures chart a similar course to what is suggested here. But I can’t see Abrams being particularly interested in doing a direct adaptation of any of the books. And why would you put such a spoiler like Jacen ultimately becoming Darth Caedus in a casting notice? Given that these characters have been around for a while, it wouldn’t be too hard to manufacture this alleged casting notice, knowing it plays into what fans are hoping for.

One other question mark hanging over this story is the site itself. These guy are relatively new to the spoiler game, so they don’t have an established track record. Take that for what it is worth.

As you can see there’s an argument to be made on each side. My gut instinct is that this bunk, though. But prepared for more stories like this all summer long.
