Owen Wilson Joining Jim Carey For Untitled Heist Comedy

Owen Wilson has signed on to Relativity’s currently untitled action comedy project that already has Jim Carey lined up to star in. The film will be directed by Napoleon Dynamite helmer Jared Hess and is written by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer.

Deadline reported the casting announcement and summed up the film’s story as –

[T]he fact-based story of a disgruntled armored car driver who is persuaded to risk it all for love, money, and extravagance. He and his cohorts liberate $20 million from a bank vault. They promptly double cross him, and as the driver’s left alone on the run in Mexico while they live the high life, he becomes obsessed with getting even.

The news of Wilson’s deal comes on the heels of the disappointing opening weekend of his latest comedy, The Internship, which paired him with his Wedding Crashers co-star Vince Vaughn but only opened to a disappointing $17.3 million at the box office.

More interesting is Napoleon Dynamite’s Jared Hess. He found such a unique, quirky tone for that film that he has been bound the tyranny of high expectations since then that his two follow up films have not been able to break free from. The plot for this certainly sounds different enough that he wouldn’t have to worry about direct comparisons to his break out film and I am interested in seeing what he has to offer.
