James Bobbin may be going down the rabbit hole soon. The man who directed The Muppets, and is currently finishing up work on its sequel The Muppets… Again!, for Disney is currently in talks to direct the sequel to the studio’s 2010 hit Alice In Wonderland, tentatively titled Into The Looking Glass. Bobbin is nowhere near a done deal, however, and The Wrap is reporting that his participation is in part pending approval of Alice star Johnny Depp.
Linda Woolverton, writer of 2010’s Alice In Wonderland, is currently working on the script for the sequel, which will presumably use some elements from author Lewis Carroll’s literary Alice sequel Through The Looking Glass. Woolverton already lifted some elements from that book for her first Alice screenplay, including the White Queen and the Jabberwock.
Not a hit with critics (51% at Rotten Tomatoes and I hated it), Alice In Wonderland still pulled in just over $1 billion at the box office, no doubt in part thanks to 3D ticket upcharges.
Although it is far too early to think about casting for the film, presumably Alice star Mia Wasikowska will be returning to her titular role and Depp’s need to sign-off on Bobbin indicates that he will be back playing the Mad Hatter. No word as to what other characters from the first film will be returning.
They did an amazing Alice movie called Dreamchild.
Meaning the Muppets or at least Henson but alas this will be another Depp vehicle.
