Much like real estate, one of the most important things in opening a new film is location, location, location. Having your film open on the wrong weekend can conceivably cost a studio millions at the box office. That is why it is important for studios to stake out their claims fairly early. Disney and Pixar are taking no chances, and have announced a release schedule today for projects that they haven’t even officially announced yet.
Not unexpectedly, the two of the three Pixar dates fall in the middle of June, the tradional time of year that the studio releases their films. Their latest, Monsters University will hit screens on June 21. Previously, Pixar has announced The Good Dinosaur for May 30, 2014 and their untitled “Inside The Mind” movie for June 19, 2015 and the Finding Nemo sequel Finding Dory on November 25, 2015. Disney has Frozen set for this November 27, followed by Big Hero 6 on August 1, 2014.
