Henry Cavill is in talks to take over the lead role in Warner Brothers adaptation of the 1960s television series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. He’ll be playing the part of suave spy Napoleon Solo, a role vacated by Tom Cruise just last week. Guy Ritchie is set to direct the film with production scheduled to commence this fall.
Cavill will star in the film opposite Armie Hammer, who has already been signed to play fellow agent Illya Kuryakin.
News of Cruise’s departure from the film hit on Friday, so for the studio to have a replacement lined up over a three-day weekend suggests that the studio may have kept the fact that Cruise was leaving silent for a bit while they conducted their search for a replacement.
It also suggests that the studio brass may be very happy with Cavill’s work on another little film for the studio, the Superman franchise reboot Man of Steel due in theaters in just a few weeks.
