Bill Hader States No ‘SNL’ Spin-Off Film For Stefon

For nearly four decades Saturday Night Live has served as a springboard into a movie career for many very funny people and sometimes they bring along a signature character or two from their stint on the show. But with this past week’s departure of Bill Hader after eight seasons, don’t expect to see one of his most popular characters to join him on the big screen.

Hader addressed the idea of spinning off his popular Stefon character in an interview with GQ, pointing out that building an entire film around Manhattan night life reporter who would appear on the show’s “Weekend Update” segments would be a bad idea.

There’s no emotional through line. Sometimes people say to me “I want a Stefon movie” and I’m like, you think you want a Stefon movie but then you’ll see the poster for it and think: “Wait, I don’t want this.”

Can’t say as I blame Hader. As much as I enjoy the character I don’t see much there to fill out a feature length film. Although I wouldn’t say no to a cameo appearance in Zoolander 2.
