Over the past decade or so, many studios have really cranked up production on animated family fare knowing full well that there is an audience that will always be hungry for such films no matter the quality. Yes, Ice Age franchise, I’m looking at you.
Paramount is looking to finally get into this particularly lucrative line of business. The studio is already hard at work on a new Spongebob Squarepants film for next year. And now there is rumblings of a second film inching into the production pipeline now.
Deadline is reporting that while there should be more concrete details on the unnamed project “soon,” all we know now is that it will “based on original IP [intellectual property] and will have consumer products possibilities.”
Ultimately, the studio is looking at building themselves a brand by releasing an animated film a year, especially in the face of the studio’s distribution contract with Dreamworks Animation expiring at the end of 2012.

Hey – I liked the first one! Which is the only one I’ve actually seen. I think I’ve glimpsed the others…
