Toby Jones Confirms He’ll Be In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Zola1Toby Jones, who played villainous scientist Arnim Zola in Captain America, has confirmed that he would be back for 2014’s sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He made the admission to Hey You Guys while walking the red carpet at the London Critics Circle Awards. Jones’ Zola will join Crossbones (Frank Grillo) and a brainwashed Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) as the villains of the film.

But there is the question of will we see Zola in a flashback to World War Two or will we somehow see Zola in the present?

And if in the present, how will he have survived from the 40s to the present day? Perhaps it will be more in the form he is seen in the comics – a headless robot housing his consciousness with a television screen in his chest displaying his face. Granted, it’s concept that would be pretty tricky to translate into live action. But if they do go for it, there are two setups in the first Captain America movie that plant the seed for the look. As you can see below, the first reveal of Zola was done in a tongue-in-cheek tip-of-the-hat to the character’s comics look. The second possible set up comes when Zola is grabbing some of his notes prior to his escape during Captain America’s attack on the Red Skull’s base. As you can see in the second screen grab below, Zola appears to be developing a version of the robotic body he has in the comics.
