The Sundance Film Festival doesn’t seem like the place to get news about a major studio’s superhero franchise, but sometimes you have to take the news wherever you find it. And that’s how we come to have some news about the upcoming sequel to last summer’s The Amazing Spider-Man.
While making an appearance in Park City to help support the film Kill Your Darlings, Dane DeHaan, who is set to play Harry Osbourne in the Spider sequel, denied that his character was also going to be the villain Green Goblin. However, after the screening, Kill Your Darlings director John Krokidas seemed to be of a different opinion. As reported by Hit Fix –
Krokidas introduced the cast of “Darlings” which includes Daniel Radcliffe, Ben Foster and Michael C. Hall. When he got to DeHaan he said “He’s the Green Goblin.” DeHaan just smiled, but it didn’t seem like Krokidas was kidding.
We already know that Jamie Foxx has been set to play the villain Electro, so DeHaan would be the film’s second villain. And that’s not even counting Norman Osbourne, Harry’s father, who was not seen in the first film though he was definitely a presence in the story of how Peter Parker became Spider-Man. In the comics, it is Norman, not Harry, who fought against Spider-Man as the Green Goblin. Have the filmmakers made a change in the standard Spider-Man mythology? We’ll find out sometime before the film hits theaters in May 2014.
