There was a pair of historic firsts in the Best Actress category with 85-year-old Emmanuelle Riva (Amour) being the oldest actress ever nominated while Beasts Of The Southern Wild‘s Quvenzhane Wallis is the youngest to ever be nominated in the category at age nine.

The nominations were revealed by Seth MacFarlane, who will be hosting the awards show next month and actress Emma Stone. Traditionally, the announcement is made by the president of the Academy accompanied by an Oscar recipient from the previous year. This is the first time an awards show host helped to announce the nominees since Clint Eastwood did it in 1972.
