In comics, death is not much of an impediment for most characters and it has been that way in comic book movies as well. And that’s how Martin Sheen gets to reprise his role of Peter Parker’s kindly Uncle Ben for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 even though the character died in the first film.
Sheen made the announcement last Friday on the British late-night talk show The Late Late Show With Ryan Tubridy. Here’s what he had to say –
I’m going to be Uncle Ben in Spider-Man once again next year. We shoot it in February.
Now in the comics, the death of Uncle Ben is one of the few fatalities that has never been reversed. And while that held true for Sam Raimi’s previous Spider-Man trilogy of films, after dying in the first installment Ben (in the form of actor Cliff Robertson) did appear in the two following films in the forms of flashbacks and a dream sequence. Since this new iteration of Spider-Man is supposed to dig deeper into his origins and his parents background, I suppose having Ben show up in flashbacks is to be expected here.
