15 Documentaries Advance To Voting Round For 2012 Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have announced the fifteen documentaries that have been advanced through to the next round of eligibility for nomination for the Academy Awards. The fifteen films were chose through a premilinary round of voting that comprised of 126 eligible documentaries. A second round of voting will winnow these 15 films down to the nominees that will be announced on January 10, 2013.

While some of the nominees that have made it through to this round were to be expected, there are, as always, some surprising omissions. Chief among the documentaries missing from the list are the recently released The Central Park Five, Burn, West Of Memphis, Queen Of Versailles and Hitler’s Children.

Here is the list of 15 documentaries that will advance to the next round of consideration:

Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry
Bully
Chasing Ice
Detropia
Ethel
5 Broken Cameras
The Gatekeepers
The House I Live In
How to Survive a Plague
The Imposter
The Invisible War
Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God
Searching for Sugar Man
This Is Not a Film
