When you are working on a sequel to a hit film, you certainly want to try and retain all of the personnel you can from the original for the follow-up. That goes doubly so when one of those creative types won an Academy Award for their work. So it is indeed good news that Bret McKenzie, whose “Man or Muppet” from last year’s The Muppets snagged a Best Original Song Oscar, is returning to pen more tunes for the currently in development, untitled sequel.
We don’t know how many songs McKenzie will be creating for the film, but then there are a number of details about the project that are currently in lock-down. We do know that Muppets star Jason Segal will not be back and filling his place as the human lead will be Christoph Waltz, playing an Interpol inspector. The film is set in Europe and will be some sort of comedy caper. Muppets director Nicholas Stoller will be back behind the camera and will have once again co-authored the film James Bobbin.
Given a release date of approximately this time next year, the film will start shooting at London’s Pinewood Studios in January with production running into April.
