By now, you may have seen Rian Johnson’s twisty noir-time travel film Looper. (And if you haven’t, rush out as soon as possible and do so.) If you are anxious to hear what the director has to say about the film, its story and how it was made but can’t wait for the inevitable director’s commentary track for the home video release, Johnson has the answer for you. He has recorded a specific commentary track that you can download into your iPod or MR3 player, take to the movies and listen to as you watch the film.
Johnson posted the commentary track on SoundCloud. As he explains on the film’s Tumbler –
I recorded a commentary track to be downloaded, put on an ipod and listened to in the theater as you’re watching Looper. This is an odd thing I tried with Bloom, and have gotten a few requests for it again, so here it is. It is totally different from the commentary track that will be on the Blu/DVD, a bit more technical and detailed. Needless to say, this is NOT to be listened to on a first viewing, or before you’ve seen the film. Also, please work it so that a glowing screening is never out of your pocket during the movie.
Listen to the introduction before heading to the theater, it has instructions.
Of course, this is a good way to sell a few more tickets, but if you liked the movie enough to download the commentary track, you’re probably heading back to the theater to see it again soon anyway. I am.
