Cloverfield director Matt Reeves has definitely been set to direct Twentieth Century Fox’s Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes sequel Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. Reeves’s involvement in the project was first revealed last week when it was reported that he was on the studio’s shortlist of directors following his leaving Warner Brothers’ The Twilight Zone.
Rise director Rupert Wyatt was originally slated to direct Dawn but left when he felt that the studio’s mandated May 23, 2014 did not allow for enough time for him to comfortably deliver a film he would be happy with.
Other directors allegedly on Fox’s short list include Rian Johnson (Looper), Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim), J Blakeson (The Disappearance Of Alice Creed), Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter) and Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible).
Rise scripters Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver have already turned in their draft for Dawn. There is no word as to when production is scheduled to start, though I would guess early next year.
