May 1st, 2015.
Granted this isn’t an officially announced date from Marvel Studios, but MTV is stating that this is what their industry sources are telling them that’s when the Joss Whedon scripted and directed film will hit theaters.
And it certainly seems logical enough. That first weekend is one that Marvel has pretty much staked out for a number of their films all the way back to Iron Man. Additionally, that weekend is also the annual Free Comic Book Day, so the cross-promotion doesn’t hurt.
Avengers 2 is the culmination of Marvel Studios’s “Phase Two” which kicks off with next summer’s Iron Man 2 and continues with Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man and Guardians Of The Galaxy across the remainder of 2013 and 2014.
Marvel had no comment on MTV’s report. We await Deadline’s refutation of this report.
