Jackie Earle Haley Signs Onto ROBOCOP, Jay Baruchel Circling

With its schedule premier a little more than a year from now, MGM’s remake of Robocop is starting to turn up the heat on its casting prior to getting in front of cameras. As the week came to a close it was announced that Jackie Earle Haley has signed onto the film and that Jay Baruchel is reportedly interested in a role as well.

Haley will be playing Maddox, a character created for the reboot who is a military expert who trains a pre-robocop’ed Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman). Looking back at Haley’s work on the TV series Human Target, this sounds like a good fit for the actor.

There isn’t really any information as to what part Baruchel is reportedly interested in though Deadline is calling at a “lead role.” My guess is that it is probably somewhat nebbish-y.

The actors will be joining Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Hugh Laurie, Samuel L. Jackson and Abbie Cornish when director Jose Padilha gets the cameras rolling later this fall.
