Sage Stallone, actor and eldest son to movie star Sylvester Stallone, was found dead in his Hollywood apartment last evening. Uncofirmed reports have placed the cause of death as a possible pill overdose. He was 36.
Stallone had his first, and perhaps most memorable role, playing Rocky Balboa’s son opposite his father in Rocky 5. He passed on reprising the character for 2010’s Rocky Balboa. His next film appearance was again alongside his father in the 1996 action flick Daybreak.
Although he did occasionally act in small projects after Daybreak, Stallone decided to shift his career to behind the camera, teaming with Oscar-winning film editor Bob Murawski to form Grindhouse Releasing, a company that brought nearly forgotten exploitation films from the 1970s and 80s back out to the home video market. They were the first distributor to restore sucj Italian horror films as Cannibal Holocaust (1980) Umberto Lenzi’s Cannibal Ferox (1981), and Lucio Fulci’s 1981 classic The Beyond.
