At the end of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes we saw the start of an epidemic that would sweep the globe enhancing the intelligence of primates but would prove fatal to humans. So it is perhaps appropriate that Contagion writer Scott Z. Burns has been brought onto work on the script for the film’s sequel.
Previously, the writers on Rise, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa, had worked on a draft. The Hollywood Reporter‘s story is a bit vague as to whether Burns will be working from that or starting completely over. Hopefully, their story work will be retained as they are the ones who originated this new take on the classic Planet Of The Apes mythology. They have stated that they have already mapped out an entire trilogy of films and that there are some subtle clues hidden in Rise as to where the other two films will go.
While it remains to be seen of James Franco will be back, performance capture actor Andy Serkis and director Rupert Wyatt both will be, and in addition to the screenplay, those two were the key components to the Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes‘ success.
