If you make a film for $12 million and it opens to a first weekend box office of $21 million, you can be sure that your studio will want a sequel. And since this happens to be the exact case with Warner Brothers’ Project X.
The Hollywood Reporter is stating that Warners has had Project X‘s story author and co-scripter Michael Bacall working on a story treatment for a follow up to the found footage hit. It is unsure if the treatment will be passed on to the the scripting stage or if Bacall’s screenwriting partner Matt Drake will hop onto the project at some future point. Those decisions will rest with the producers, Todd Phillips and Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures after Bacall turns in his work.
This won’t be the only sequel that Bacall is reportedly working on. He has a screenplay credit on next week’s 21 Jump Street which also is said to have a sequel already in development at Columbia Pictures.
