It is a rare case when a sequel is better than the original. The Empire Strikes Back, The Godfather Part II and Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan all spring to mind as examples. But to this shortlist will we be adding – GI Joe: Retaliation? OK, granted John Chu’s follow-up to the 2008 toy line-adaption doesn’t have to be very good at all to still better than director Stephen Sommers’ original hot mess of a film, but I am slowly starting to think that it might be at least an altogether not too painful way of passing two hours eating popcorn when it gets released on June 29.
A new 30-second spot for the film just hit online this weekend and it mixes footage we’ve already seen in the two released trailers with a few seconds of new footage. (Ignore the YouTube poster who labeled this as a trailer. At 30 seconds, it’s a television spot and nothing more.) It’s put together well and hopefully indicative of what Chu will be bringing us.
