Billy Connolly has landed the last uncast role in Peter Jackosn’s two-part The Hobbit. The Scottish actor will be playing the dwarf warrior-king Dain Ironfoot.
Jackson is just getting started on the final 100 days of principal photography after taking a break to travel to Sundance to present the documentary about the West Memphis Three, West of Memphis, which he helped produce.
Dain Ironfoot is the cousin of Thorin Oakenshield, the leader of the group of dwarfs who recruit the titular Bilbo Baggins to join them on a quest to retake a dwarvish treasure from a dragon. He will factor into the second film, leading an army of dwarfs at The Battle Of The Five Armies. TO say more would spoil the film for those who haven’t read J R R Tolkien’s original book.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, hits screens on December 14, 2012 with part two The Hobbit: There and Back Again, following a year later on December 13, 2013.
