Amanda Seyfried and Taylor Swift appear to be the two latest additions to the cast of director Tom Hooper’s big screen adaption of the musical Les Miserables.
Seyfried is being reported as in final negotiations for the role of Cosette, an orphan whom Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) rescues from the abusive clutches of the Thénardiers (Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter). Meanwhile, Swift has been offered the role of Eponine, the biological daughter of the Thenardiers and who finds herself in a love triangle with Cosette and Marius (Eddie Redmayne).
Although she was competing for the role against thespians Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson, and Evan Rachel Wood, Swift’s casting isn’t too surprising, as her pop star status will certainly help to add marquee value to the film, drawing tweens and teens and their disposable income to the box office.
Seyfried has already shown off her singing chops in another movie musical, being one of the few good parts in the trainwreck that was Mama Mia! (2009).
In addition to Jackman, Carter , Choen and Redmayne, the film will also feature Ann Hathaway and Aaron Tveit. Filming is scheduled to start in March for a December 7 release.
