Mia Wasikoska Up For OLDBOY

Alice In Wonderland star Mia Wasikowska has been offered the lead in Spike Lee’s English-language remake of Chan-wook Park’s Oldboy. She will be playing Marie, a young woman who Josh Brolin’s character will fall in love with following his release from a fifeteen-year-long mysterious imprisonment. Ironically, Wasikowska just wrapped work on Park’s first English-language film Stoker.

The part had been previously offered to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara, though she passed on the project.

Lee will be directing the film from a screenplay by Mark Protosevich, who has pulled inspiration from both Park’s film and the manga by Garon Tsuchiya and illustrated by Nobuaki Minegishi from which it was adapted. As we know, Lee has stated that the screenplay may even be “a bit darker” than the original film.

Oldboy begins production in March.
