Trailer: Sacha Baron Cohen’s THE DICTATOR

Sacha Baron Cohen, the British comic behind the films Borat and Bruno, is pretty fearless when it comes to the subjects he chooses for his movies and his latest, The Dictator, looks like it will be no exception. In it, Cohen plays the absolute ruler of a middle eastern country. The trailer below gives that much away, though there have been other plot points reported that don’t show up in the trailer.  Anna Farris is in the cast, but is conspicuously absent from the trailer. Are the filmmakers keeping some of that material under wraps as a surprise for general audiences or has there been some reworking of the film’s plotlines.

Admittedly, this scripted endeavor doesn’t seem quite as funny or biting as his previous two films, but there are still some laugh out loud moments including a bit with Megan Fox which I suppose could be seen as a swipe at Hollywood. We’ll see how funny the final product is when the movie hits theaters on May 11.
