Buckaroo Banzai Heading To The 23rd Century

Peter Weller, the star of the cult classic The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai: Across The Eighth Dimension and the three Robocop films, has been cast in J J Abrams’ Star Trek sequel which starts filming next month.

There is no concrete details on what his role will be, though Deadline is reporting his reps are calling it a “a principal role.” So good guy? Bad guy?Either way, it’s always nice to see Weller back on the big screen.

This isn’t Weller’s first time visiting the Star Trek franchise universe. In 2005, he played a villain in a two-part story during Star Trek: Enterprise‘s final season. Given that Abrams’ 2009 film rebooted the franchise’s continuity, it strikes me as doubtful that he will be playing the same role again.

Alice Eve and Benicio Del Toro have also been reported as being up for roles, though there has been no official word from Paramount Studios on any of the casting reports.
