The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that 18 films have been submitted for possible nomination for this year’s Best Animated Feature Academy Award. The films still have to meet the Academy’s qualifying rules in order to move on to the next step in the nomination process. For some, such as Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures Of Tintin, this means completing the required week long theatrical release run by the end of the year. But let’s face it, some of these are never going to come close to getting nominated. (Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, I’m looking at you.)
The list includes a number of foreign films in addition to the big family features pushed out by the major studios.
- The Adventures of Tintin
- Alois Nebel
- Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked
- Arthur Christmas
- Cars 2
- A Cat in Paris
- Chico & Rita
- Gnomeo & Juliet
- Happy Feet Two
- Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil
- Kung Fu Panda 2
- Mars Needs Moms
- Puss in Boots
- Rango
- Rio
- The Smurfs
- Winnie the Pooh
- Wrinkles
The Academy Award nominations will be announced on January 24th at 5:30 a.m. PT and the 84th Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Eddie Murphy, will air February 26th, 2012.
