ZOMBIELAND Writers Taking On MICRONAUTS

Yesterday during their quarterly earnings call Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner discussed the status of many of the films in development based on their various toy lines. One title mentioned was Micronauts, a line of futuristic action figures that were released back in the late 1970s and early 1980s being developed by producer JJ Abrams over at Paramount Pictures.

Now we know who has the assignment to write that film – Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the writers of the hit comedy Zombieland.

Although the toys came with no real story to drive play, a spinoff comic from Marvel Comics fleshed out the characters’ backgrounds into a group of freedom fighters struggling to overthrow the evil ruler of the microverse, Baron Karza.

Following the breakout success of Zombieland, Wernick and Reese have landed a couple of plum assignments in scripting GI Joe: Retaliation which is currently in production and Deadpool, which has Ryan Reynolds attached to reprise the character he played in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

No director is attached yet to the project.
