WARGAMES Remake Gets A Writer

MGM’s planned WarGames remake now has a writer. The studio has hired Noah Oppenheim to provide a screenplay that reimages the 1983 film about a high school computer whiz (Matthew Broderick) who hacks into a defense department computer and almost causes nuclear war.

Oppenheim comes from a television background that features producer credits for The Today Show and MSNBC’s Hardball With Chris Matthews. He recently received some attention with his Jackie Onassis spec script Jackie, which landed on the 2010 Black List. He is also currently working on an adaption of the New York Times bestseller The Maze Runner.

Seth Gordon is set to direct WarGames and reportedly has been given a fairly free hand to bring the story into the 21st century and considering the advancements over the last three decades Gordon and Oppenheim certainly have a lot of options open to them.
