Stop checking your calendars to see if it has somehow magically become April 1st. This is not a gag.
The Hollywood Reporter has reported that movie superstar Bruce Willis is in negotiations to appear in GI Joe 2: Retaliation. He will play General Joe Colton, the founder of the high-tech, anti-terrorist team that bears his name.
Now I understand that when films are first being cast, Willis’s name is probably on a lot of initial lists for roles in a number of action films. When you’re compiling a wish list, why not wish big? But 99% of the time audiences don’t see Willis in the role either because the film’s budget isn’t enough to meet the star’s price or just a lack of interest on the part of the actor.
I have to express a moderate level of surprise that Willis would be joining the cast of a franchise film, particularly one that has already had one installment fairly savaged by critics. Since I can’t think of another star of his stature that has done something similar, it make me think that director John Chu may have something spectacular in store for this film to get Willis involved.
GI Joe 2 starts filming later this month in New Orleans with a cast that includes Channing Tatum, Ray Park, Byung Hun-lee, Dwayne Johnson, Ray Stevenson, RZA and Adrianne Palicki.
