Writer Marti Noxon is reteaming with director Craig Gillespie to work on the forthcoming adaption of Seth Grahame-Smiths comic horror novel Pride And Prejudice And Zombies. Noxon had worked with Gillespie previously when she penned the director’s Fright Night remake which is due out later this year.
Lionsgate has been working on getting the adaption in front of cameras for some time. Gillespie was brought in to replace writer/director David O Russell, who left the project back late last year. Noxon will be working from Russell’s latest draft completed before his departure. Russell’s departure was due to a disagreement with the studio of the film’s projected budget so Noxon could presumably be rewriting with an eye towards making things a bit less expensive.
As of now, there is no cast set for the film, though Natalie Portman had originally been attached to play Jane Austin’s heroine Elizabeth Bennet, who in this version of the tale, battles zombies and for the affections of the aloof Mr. Darcy. Portman dropped out due to scheduling conflicts and no actress has been approached to take her place.
