The quest to cast Evanora, the Wicked Witch in Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great And Powerful has ended with the unexpected casting of Rachel Weisz. Unexpected, as when we last heard anything about the role was that Raimi and studio Disney could not agree on an actress for the role. Raimi wanted Hillary Swank, whom he worked with on his film The Gift, while the studio wanted Michelle Williams.
The actress is currently in final negotiations to join the film.
Weisz will be squaring off against James Franco playing a carnival barker who is swept to the land of OZ in a hot air balloon and cons the locals into thinking he is a powerful wizard. Mila Kunis has already joined the cast as Theadora, Evanora’s younger sister.
