Universal Pictures has offered the lead role in their upcoming Snow White And The Huntsman. Apparently, Universal is hoping that Jackman has an open spot on his schedule following the departure of Darren Aronofsky from the Jackman-starring The Wolverine.
There’s no word yet if Jackman will accept. The film already has Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron in the cast as Snow White and the Evil Queen respectively. Rupert Sanders is directing and the studio is looking for a mid-September production start date. Universal is currently racing to get their Snow White project into theaters before the Tarsem Singh-directed The Brothers Grimm: Snow White from Relativity.
Twentieth Century Fox, on the other hand, is less of a rush to get The Wolverine into theaters. They’ll be keeping the X-Men franchise alive in moviegoers’ minds this summer with X-Men: First Class and are actively developing a fourth installment of its main X-Men series and their summer 2012 schedule is looking to be solid as well. They have plenty of time to find a replacement for Aronofsky, and even though Jackman is involved in that search, he could still head off to do Snow White And The Huntsman this fall before returning back to the world of the X-Men.
