Not much of a surprise but Dame Judi Dench has confirmed that she will be back as the head of British Secret Service codenamed “M,” in the next, currently untitled, James Bond film.
Dench mentioned that she would be back while talking to the media at the recent South Bank Sky Awards in England.
Of course, I’m looking forward hugely to working with Daniel [Craig] again and with [Bond 23 director] Sam [Mendes] who I’ve only ever worked with in the theatre. So that’ll be all good fun to do! I’m so glad it’s coming back, it’s wonderful.
This will mark Dench’s seventh appearance in the Bond franchise, starting when Pierce Breosnan took over the role in 1995’s GoldenEye. She still has a way to go before she matches Bernard Lee’s eleven turns in the role through the Sean Connery and a majority of the Roger Moore eras.
Bond 23 is set for a November 9, 2012 release.
