It has been in production for a few weeks, but Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class, but we’re still finding out about cast members being added to the production. At Monday night’s Paley Center event to promote the appearance of several Twin Peaks cast members on USA Networks’ Psych, Ray Wise let slip that he will be appearing in the comic book sequel, playing the United States Secretary of State.
“I’m playing the Secretary of State of the United States. I’ll be going over there in the next couple of weeks,” he stated. Wise also hinted that he may be involved in a special effects sequence or two, saying “Well, I think I touch on them, yeah, a bit.”
Wise has been one of the most dependable and imposing character actors of the last couple of decades, with memorable turns in such series as Reaper, 24 and, of course, David Lynch’s landmark Twin Peaks. His Peaks character of Leland Palmer, a grieving father who actually served as a host for a vengeful, murderous spirit, was one of the most complex portrayals ever seen on television and he only managed to deepen it further in the show’s under-rated cinematic spinoff Twin Peaks: Fire, Walk With Me. While there probably won’t be room in First Class for Wise to really strut his stuff, I’m sure just his presence on screen will help raise the film a few notches.
