Rumor: Renner For Snake Plissken In ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Redo

Unconfirmed word is floating about that The Hurt Locker‘s Jeremy Renner is in preliminary talk to star in the remake of Escape From New York. Breck Eisner is in the process of setting up a remake of John Carpenter’s classic 1981 post-apocalyptic action flick for New Line Cinema. Renner would play Snake Plissken, the soldier-turned-criminal tasked by the government to extract the President from the island prison of Manhattan after his plane has crashed there.

Renner is certainly getting some good roles following the critical success of 2008’s The Hurt Locker. He’s currently working on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and has The Avengers and Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master waiting in the wings. If he signs for Escape, it looks like he won’t be available until late next year for filming.
