Martin Sheen Cast As SPIDER-MAN Reboot’s Uncle Ben

Martin Sheen will be joining the cast of Columbia’s Spider-Man franchise reboot as Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben when cameras begin rolling in he 3D movie next month. Sheen will be joining Andrew Garfield as Peter, Emma Stone as Peter’s love interest Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as villain The Lizard.

Along with his wife May, Ben Parker is the one who raised a young Peter Parker after his parents were killed. It is his murder in the midst of a robbery that spurs the recently bitten by a radioactive spider Peter to use his new found powers responsibly.

Sheen is replacing Cliff Robertson, who played Uncle Ben in the three Spider-Man films helmed by Sam Raimi. While I thought that Robertson did a great job in the role, I certainly think that Sheen can exude the same paternal warmth that the role needs.
