After much debate and speculation in the fan and industry gossip press, it appears as if Emma Stone is going to be offered the role of superhero love interest Mary Jane Watson in Sony’s upcoming 3D Spider-Man franchise reboot. Deadline is reporting that a deal will be “imminently” offered to the Zombieland and Easy A actress.
If she accepts the offer, Stone will be appearing opposite Andrew Garfield as the red-headed girl next door who befriends the awkward Peter Parker and eventually becomes the love of his life.
Deadline is also reporting that casting is still going on for the part of Gwen Stacey, with the field of contenders narrowed down to four – Dianna Agron, Mia Wasikowska, Georgina Haig and Dominique McElligott. With the inclusion of the character of Gwen, it looks as if this reboot will be sticking closer to the comics where Gwen is Peter Parker’s first girlfriend, before his romance started with Mary Jane.
