Geek Gear: “Buffy Stakes Edward” T-Shirt

They say that brevity is the soul of wit. But even though the parody films of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer (Date Movie, Epic Movie, etc.) generally clock in at 86 minutes, that is about 85 minutes, 53 seconds  too long. Their latest, Vampires Suck, opens today and ostensibly takes pot shots at the phenomenon of mopey vampires we call Twilight. Given their past track record and the fact that this wasn’t screened for critics, I don’t have any hopes whatsoever that this latest offal, err, offering from the pair will be any different or better.

What Friedberg and Seltzer and will fail to do over the course of their film, the t-shirt below (available at Amazon in both men’s and women’s sizes) does in just a few words. It calls to mind a time when a franchise with vampires could be written with both emotional and intellectual depth in addition to being entertaining. (Do you think that Twilight will ever spawn the same type of field of scholarly analysis that Joss Whedon’s Buffy has?) Besides, I have to admit that it is kind of fun just to wear while out running errands or doing the grocery shopping just to see what reactions you get.
